What We Do
The Tech Ed Committee is the community outreach arm of the Engineers Club of Dayton. We promote the development, maintenance, and sustainment of the Club through innovative partnerships with area schools, universities, and businesses.
Merit Badge Workshops
Highly qualified Club volunteers counsel STEM merit badges for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America every fall. In November 2025, we hosted 22 middle school and high school students in four merit badge topics, with a 100% success rate:
-
Digital Technology
-
Engineering
-
Sustainability
-
Space Exploration
In January 2026, we also collaborated with the Ohio Cyber Reserves (OhCR) and the National Museum of the United States Air Force to provide a cybersecurity merit badge event for hundreds of area Scouts.
Sinclair Tech Fest
Each winter, the Engineers Club hosts a variety of tables with hands-on activities aimed at elementary and middle school students during this free public event. In February 2026, we saw over 2,000 visitors to our tables:
-
Acoustics
-
Artificial Intelligence
-
Balloon Cars
-
Cybersecurity
-
Gumdrop Bridge
-
Optics
Science Fairs
Our Club members volunteer to judge area school science fairs several times a year. In 2026, we provided judges for the St. Charles Borromeo School and Hillel Academy science fairs.
Drone Races
The Engineers Club of Dayton was proud to participate in the National Museum of the United States Airforce Annual Drone Race event for 2026. Hundreds of visitors stopped by our tables to learn about controls and displays!
Barn Gangs
Every week throughout the entire year, the Tech Ed Committee hosts Barn Gang presentations. These range in topic from personal finance to business management to the science of color. Barn Gangs are open to the public and are held Tuesdays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, with lunch beginning at 11:00 am.
